We've had heavy down-pours and warm to hot days so everything has burst into life - plants, animals and people. The last two days have seen a flurry of plantings with so many summer vegies going in that the troughs are full with more room opening up as the earlier summer produce is harvested.
Some new varieties of Malabar Spinach have gone in, which when cooked (in the same way as spinach) is just delicious. We're looking forward to the Community Kitchen when that harvest comes in! Various varieties of tomato have found a home and are all from locally-grown seedlings - it's quite amazing, the myriad varieties of tomato we have seeding in our backyards. Apple cucumbers, silverbeet, nasturtiums, various herbs, a beautifully scented lavender and more. The colours and scents will be intoxicating, let alone the exquisite taste of fresh-picked produce.
Also undertaken was a fairly hefty stab at weeding the lawned area as tiny, bare feet do run around on it and we grow some nasty thistles in this area.
Coming up: Plant Tags (so people know what's edible and how), espaliered fruit trees and underplanting - to Guild or not to Guild.
